Project Pinwheel

Our CDC Team has been planning a capital project for several years which included the relocation of the two BV CDC Smithers facilities into one integrated, inclusive and accessible location.  This new building project, named “Project Pinwheel – Give Today to Build Tomorrow” has a greater impact than just the relocation of the BV CDC’s two facilities in Smithers.  At the present time, the Child Development Centre serves over 450 children per year with that number continuing to be on the rise.  The project includes space for programs and services that will enrich the lives of children, youth with special and typical needs and their families.  The building project will enable the CDC to offer a broader range of programs, enhance service delivery, and allow the centre to better meet the needs of children and families in our area within an inclusive and accessible main location while preserving our outreach service delivery model.  The project will provide for an increase in knowledge of and a greater appreciation for children, youth and their development.  As a result a stronger network will be built to support a person’s success in the community.

Our fundraising goal is $995 000.00.

Phase One of our project includes the following:

  • Renovation of the new building to increase accessibility (upgrade flooring from carpet to vinyl plank, upgrade washrooms, wheel chair ramps from exterior to interior, improve lighting, upgrade interior doors to safety standards).

  • Renovation of the new building to ensure all fire safety requirements have been upgraded to code (doors, ceilings).

  • Development of the main floor Family Resource Play area and library (toys, books and videos).

  • Renovation of the Family Play area on the ground floor for weekly playgroups.

Phase Two of our project includes the following:

  • Development of all our pediatric therapy rooms and professional offices (includes; sensory motor rooms, small assessment rooms, speech and language therapy rooms, therapy storage rooms).

  • Development of an accessible outdoor play space area.

  • Installation of an elevator from the main floor into the basement.

Our Society Members, Board of Directors, Management and Staff are very excited about Project Pinwheel and our future CDC location!

We are looking for donor support from our Community Members in our new facility. Please see the Project Pinwheel Donor Support and Recognition Chart.
