In September 1986, the Centre moved from the town of Telkwa to Smithers where the Society leased space from the St. James Anglican Church. At this time, the Society was able to purchase Occupational and Physio Therapy services from the Terrace Child Development Centre and to add these services to the BVCDC.
In January 1991, the BVCDC was successful in contracting for the Early Intervention Program which included a Family Support Worker, Occupational and Physio Therapy services.
In February 1992, a Toy Lending and Resource Library was established with funding from the Ronald MacDonald's Children's Charities.
In May 1995, the BVCDC was successful in aquiring contract dollars through the Child Care Strategic Initiatives Program to establish the Child Care Resource and Referal Program.
In the spring of 1997, the Society restructured the "special needs" preschool program to offer support to community-based child care program that facilitate the inclusion of children with special needs.
Beginning in 1998, the BVCDC contracted with schools throughout the Bulkley Valley to provide Occupational and Physio Therapy services. The Society also contracts with the Aboriginal Head Start Programs for therapy services.
In 1999, the Society completed the purchase of a new building and relocated its services and programs. This purchase was the result of thirteen years of fundraising efforts including the Celebrity Golf Tournament, donations from the community, the Vancouver Foundation and the Lions Society of BC.
